My Work at FSU

I am an Assistant Professor at the College of Information. My current research focuses on the role of digital media in young peoples’ informal learning and social relationships, and how media authorship and critical media analysis activities can be integrated into K-12 education. I also have a background in video production and social documentary, which is one of the reasons I’m happy to be teaching a class that involves media production.

My Current Research Project

I am collaborating on the multi-site ethnographic study, Kids’ Informal Learning with Digital Media: An Ethnographic Investigation of Innovative Knowledge Cultures.

[edit] My Background and Interests

I am from the lovely town of Santa Cruz, California (a small coastal town famous for its surfing and counterculture). Some of my interests (outside work) include:

  • hiking
  • cooking healthy food
  • playing with my dog (a cattle dog mix)
  • watching movies
