[edit] About Me
My name is Kyleen Knight. I live in Orange Park, FL (which few people generally recognize, so I say I'm near Jacksonville). I've actually been a bit surprised that a couple of my classmates here in LIS5313 are familiar with Orange Park. I've lived here for nearly twenty years (since I was six), but since a trip to Alaska a few years ago I've been obsessed with the Pacific Northwest and I'd like to move there eventually. This is my last semester in the program and I'll be graduating in April (since I live relatively close to Tallahassee, I plan to participate in the ceremony). My areas of study in the program have leaned toward youth services and reference services. I think I would enjoy being a Reference librarian or a YA librarian, but I haven't ruled out anything except SLMS (simply because I didn't go through everything required for that specialization). I've enjoyed everything I've learned in LIS5313 so far - it forces me to leave my comfort zone and work with things that I've only ever heard about or had very limited exposure to.
[edit] Interests and Hobbies
My interests and hobbies are varied and can change rapidly as I lose interest in one subject and gain interest in another. The list below is made up of my constants; interests and hobbies that have never waned for me.
- Reading - I think this might be a requirement for anyone interested in Library Science. My preferred genre is fantasy.
- Music - I don't really play any musical instruments, but I love listening to music and I'll give anything a listen.
- Travel - I like to travel when I have the time and money. My biggest vacation to date was going from Florida to Alaska.
- Photography - I know little about this and I rarely stop and think to take pictures, but I think I'd like to learn more and actually make use of those skills.
- Surfing the Internet - I love this, even though it can take up so much time. I read a lot online and I like perusing art sites. Learning about RSS feeds was really helpful with this hobby.
- Old Video Games - I know little about newer platforms, but I like playing old favorites. A personal triumph was getting some old computer games of mine to work with DosBox.
