[edit] Intro - Jeannie Downey
I live in Decatur, Ga (a burb of Atlanta) and work at Emory University's General Library in the Electronic and Continuing Resources Department. I work primarily with our link resolver (SFX) , our federated search engine (MetaLib) software, and serials cataloging.
Besides this class, I'm taking Metadata. I've been in library school for several years and, at this point, I think my curriculum is a hodge-podge of classes. I've worked in libraries for more than 20 years. My past employment was at Georgia Tech, University of Alabama, and Auburn University.
I'm taking this class to learn about new media technologies. I feel like I'm being left behind as technology progresses at lightning speed. I don't have children, nor do I intend to work with children. Working in an academic library, however, puts me in a position to have to interact with students and new media technologies. I taught a class at Georgia Tech and the students relied heavily on blogs and social software to interact with each other.
My hobbies are needlework, particularly cross-stitching, playing with my cats, watching movies, and reading. You can go here and see my needlework. I have 2 cats, Siobhan and Portia. Portia likes to help me type.
The cities I've lived in are:
- New York, NY
- Phoenix, AZ
- Sydney, Australia
- Auburn, AL
- Tuscaloosa, AL
- Atlanta, GA
- Peachtree City
- Fairburn
- Atlanta
- Decatur
