Image: Provide a representative thumbnail image from your video on the upper right side of this section. For your initial draft treatment, select an image or screen shot that you think you might use in the video. If you insert the code for the image directly underneath your title, it should be placed on the correct part of the page. Please note that the upload image feature of the wiki is not yet enabled. I'll let you know when it is.
Description: This is the story of how I met my husband when we were just kids. I had a huge crush on him when I was 12 (he was 12 also). The next year we had assigned seats next to each other in English class. But it wasn't until 7 years later after we were out of high school that we actually started dating. And now 21 years later, I love him more than ever. I love telling this story and am very excited to do it digitally. I want this story passed down to my grandchildren and their grandchildren.
[edit] Media Assets
I plan on using photographs from Flickr as well as photographs of my husband and my self. I will use a scanner to scan the photos to the computer for manipulation. To start my story I am going to use a picture of a young teenage girl looking at a distance at something. As the story progresses I want to use real pics of us when we got married, our children as babies, some family photos maybe. At the end of the video I want to have a picture of an elderly couple sitting on their front porch in rocking chairs telling of their "Hopeful Beginnings" I'm not sure what kind of music I will use. I was thinking of Enrique Iglesies sp? Hero, but I'm not sure. I know I could only use 30 seconds of that. , describe the primary image, video, and audio assets that you are considering using and where you are planning to look for them, or how you are planning to shoot, record, or manipulate them. Also say how you hope your use of images and sounds will contribute to the meaning of the video.
[edit] Pacing, Rhythm, and Juxtaposition
Since this is a story with a sequential time frame my photos will be arranged in order of age of myself and my husband starting at 12 and going until old age (ancient old).
For the pacing of the story, I gave more time to the pictures where I needed more meaning and where the narration was longer 4-6 seconds. For the pictures that were secondary but added interest I lowered the amount of time to 2.5-3.5 seconds.
[edit] Narration, Dialogue, and Text
I plan on using text in the video. After choosing my pictures, I'll be able to cut some of the text out as the pictures will convey the meaning I need.
Rough Draft
I spied him across the playground. Sun bleached blond hair, brown eyes and a dimpled cheeked smile. We were 12 years old then and I had it all figured out. "That's him," I said, my mouth full of a wad of Hubba Bubba bubblegum. "He's the one I'm going to marry." Of course I didn't tell him that. He would find out...later. I guess you could say I was pretty patient. Seven years went by before he noticed me. We were each out with friends when we bumped into one another. Six months later we were engaged, a year later we were married. Five years later, our first child was born. Three years after that our 2nd arrived. Next year our first child will be graduating from high school. I've been married to my best friend for 20 years now. Has it always been heavenly bliss? No way! But he's been so worth it. I imagine us years from now, hair white with age, sitting on the porch in his/her rocking chairs telling our great, great grandchildren about our Hopeful Beginnings.
After choosing my pictures for my story, my narration changed a bit in the beginning. The middle and ending mostly stayed the same.
I wanted to use strictly text, but ended up narrating the story. However, I like the end result.
[edit] Reflection
I'm excited at the possibilities of this short movie. Please let me know if you all have any cool ideas that I could explore. I'm wondering if I am conveying what I'm feeling. As the reader are there any questions you have? Am I leaving out details you think I should add? I know I have some editing and cutting out to do. Music ideas would be helpful also.
I have enjoyed the journey making this digital story has taken me on. It has been both challenging and rewarding. Watching it evolve as I revised it has been a neat process. I am pleased with the rough draft and look forward to the comments on how to improve the video.
[edit] Final Thoughts
I have learned so much while making this short movie. There's so much I would do to improve upon it, with the time and skill-The audio needs improvement. I would need to buy a better quality microphone. I tried to edit some of the home-shot photos for a closer image. I did it within the internal track but it doesn't show up in the finished selection. I tried to pan in and out, I think that's an interesting effect, but didn't quite get it right. So while I could pick it apart, I still am pleased with the overall product. Although several of you thought the music should be more upbeat, I personally like the rough draft music better. It portrayed the seriousness I feel about my husband...then and now. Nevertheless, I went with my editors' advice.
