Media Exercise 1
From LIS5313
Blog Post Introduction and HTML Basics (Due: Jan. 15)
[edit] Task
- This week, introduce yourself on the Class Discussion Blog. Carefully follow the instructions listed below.
[edit] Steps
Part A: Blog Post Introduction:
- Begin by reviewing the Blog Tutorials provided on the class blog that are listed under "Getting Started." Be sure to personalize your password and update your profile according to the instructions provided.
- Proceed with tutorials on "Writing on the blog" and "Embedding images on the blog" as needed to write a post to the Discussion Blog. You might find it useful to print out some of the tutorials.
- In your blog post, write a short paragraph about yourself. Tell us where you live, what you are studying, where you work, and something about a special interest or hobby of yours. And, tell us something that interests you about this class and something you hope to gain from it.
- Where can we go on the Internet to learn more about the community you live in (and perhaps where you work)? Include at least two hyperlinks in your post that will lead us to websites that provide information (or photos) about where you live and/or work. (Note: To do this you might need to refer back to the tutorial How to create hyperlinks.)
- Include a photo of yourself in the post (or, if you're not comfortable sharing a photo on a public website, choose another photo that represents some aspect of your life or identity). To do this, refer to the blog tutorials on "Embedding images on the blog."
- After you have published your post, check the blog to see how it appears. Is everything properly spelled and formatted? Does the image display properly? If not, please edit your post!
Part B: Giving Each Other Comments
- OK! Now that you've introduced yourself to the group, it's time to read each other's posts. Leave a comment for at least five of your peers. You can comment on something they said, ask them a question about themselves, or say hi and tell them something about yourself. If someone has already received a few comments already, find someone else to respond to until everyone has received at least three comments.
- If possible, practice using some HTML code in your comments (such as by making some of your text bold or italic for emphasis, and adding a hyperlink to your comment). If you are new to HTML, you'll want to review the Blog Tutorials on How to Write a Comment, Basic HTML Tips.
[edit] Submission Instructions
- When you have completed your blog post, go to Blackboard > Assignments > Media Exercise 1, and click "View/Complete Assignment." In the "Comments" box, provide the URL to your Blog Post Introduction. Click submit. (Note: To find the URL of a blog post, click on the title of the post. This takes you to a web page for the individual post, and you can then copy the URL provided.)
- The Exercise is due at midnight EST on the due date (Jan. 15).
- Note: You will only get credit for your work if you submit the URL in Blackboard.
