Description: One passion in my life is motorcycling so I chose to share a glimpse into why I enjoy it so much. My story shows how everything I experience adds up to making me one happy girl.

[edit] Media Assets

All of the photos used are mine. The images include photos of me, my motorcycle, and the variety of places I've been as a rider. I believe they portray a visual variety of scenery to set the tone of continental motorcycle travel. Most photos have been cropped for clearer imagery, some color enhanced. The images used are common sights for anyone doing any road travel, so there will be a sense of familiarity. Seeing a number of signs, flora, and the like are reminders of the road, of the journey. My only sound effect is a Harley as it rides by. I have selected one piece of music to incorporate throughout the story.

All production was made in iMovie on a Mac.

[edit] Pacing, Rhythm, and Juxtaposition

Scattered throughout the video are black screens with white text with (+) plus signs. Each screen is dispersed among many images that all add up to making me one happy girl! The general pacing will be steady overall... as though you are sitting in the saddle of the bike just riding along. Also scattered throughout the video is the sound effect of a Harley as it rumbles by. The journey begins on the west coast where there are images of wide open spaces. The next series of photos is desert with appropriate photos depicting the location. From there it is a shift to the north with me by the Welcome to Ontario sign. The last segment features images of the eastern part of the US... there are flowers, greenery and canopy roads that lead me home.

The music has a mellow yet upbeat tempo... I think it is perfect for a road trip! It includes a light keyboard and a woman's vocal.

[edit] Narration, Dialogue, and Text

Vocal narration just didn't seem right to me. This is about a solo rider.. there is no one to talk to. It's a sensual ride with sights and sounds, none of which are of a voice. Instead, I opted to use black screens with typewriter text to tell the story. The words are like a journal that put together all the pieces that compose a wonderful ride and make me, the rider, very happy. I think the black and white looks sharp and pulls the viewer in to read what the rider is noting.

[edit] Reflection

FROM FIRST DRAFT: My initial story idea completely changed once I wrote the narration! I wrote first and wasn't really moved by it so I decided to present the photos first and let them guide me. Once this started happening, I felt a real sense of comfort with the flow of photographs I'd chosen to use. I will present my first draft sans narration and let the images speak to me more before I get the narration composed and added to the video.

FROM FINAL DRAFT: The total layout changed from four virtual geographic divisions to one long ride. The only breaks in photo imagery are the text screens. I did shorten the piece a little bit. Changing the music from four different tracks to one really added continuity to the ride, the video. The song has enough variation and upbeat tempo to carry the viewer through the visuals. It is much smoother now. Seeing the photos washes me with a mellowness. I usually experience a lot of emotion when I review my photos because I have traveled tens of thousands of miles as a solo female rider. Some riding was touring, some was endurance competition, and it all was good.
