[edit] Links to Internal Pages (other pages on the wiki)

  • To create a new wiki page, or to reference an existing wiki page, enclose the name of the page in double brackets, like this: [[Using Web 2.0 to Lure Middle School Students to the Library]].
On the wiki, this code will appear as: Using Web 2.0 to Lure Middle School Students to the Library.
  • To create a label for your link that differs from the name of the page, follow the page name with the pipe (or vertical bar) character "|" and your link text, like this: [[Using Web 2.0 to Lure Middle School Students to the Library | Getting Middle School Students to the Library]].
On the wiki, this code will appear as: Getting Middle School Students to the Library. Note: The pipe character can often be found by pressing shift + backward dash.

[edit] Links to External Websites

  • To create a link to a website, enclose the url in single brackets, like this: [http://lis5313.blogs.ci.fsu.edu].
On the wiki, this code will appear as: [1]
  • To create a label for your link, follow the url with a space and your link text, like this: [http://lis5313.blogs.ci.fsu.edu Design and Production of Media Resources] , or like this: [http://lis5313.blogs.ci.fsu.edu http://lis5313.blogs.ci.fsu.edu].
On the wiki, this code will appear as: Design and Production of Media Resources, or like this: http://lis5313.blogs.ci.fsu.edu.

[edit] Uploading Images

  • To upload images on the wiki, click the "Upload file" button that can be found in the left column of the wiki in the "toolbox" section. The wiki accepts many standard image formats.
  • Note that currently the capability to resize images or create thumbnails on the wiki is not enabled. Until this is fixed, it is probably wisest to upload an image at the size you wish to display it.
  • Additional instructions can be found at: How to upload images and embed them in your wiki.

[edit] Embedding Images on the Wiki

  • Once you have uploaded an image to the wiki, note the name of the image file. For the examples that follow, the name of the image file is "WyomingLib.jpg."
  • Your images should have a border, or frame, and they should also have a caption that includes proper attribution information for the photo.
  • Here is an example of the code you would use to give your image both a FRAME and a CAPTION: [[Image:WyomingLib.jpg|frame|Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign]]. (This code represents the following parts [[Image:NAME OF YOUR FILE | frame | Your caption here]]. Each part is separated by the pipe "|" character.) On the wiki, this code will make your image look like this:
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson

  • To also ADD A LINK TO YOUR CAPTION, your code might look like this: [[Image:WyomingLib.jpg|frame|Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user [http://www.flickr.com/photos/maisonbisson/ misterbisson]]] . On the wiki, this code will make your image look like this:
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson

  • To also SPECIFY THE ALIGNMENT of your image, your code might look like this: [[Image:WyomingLib.jpg|frame|right|Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user [http://www.flickr.com/photos/maisonbisson/ misterbisson]] (Note that you can substitute the text "right" with "left" or "center" if you want your image to be aligned in the left or center of the page.) On the wiki, this code will make your image look like this:
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson
Wyoming Libraries Marketing Campaign by Flickr user misterbisson

  • Note that currently the capability to resize images and create thumbnails of images is not enabled on this wiki. My apologies.

[edit] Adding Extra Space Before or After an Image

  • Often you may want to add additional space before or after an image so the image is placed where you want it. One way to do this is to add several line breaks (using this code: <br /> ) for each line break.

[edit] Embedding Audio and Video on the Wiki

  • Unfortunately the ability to embed and play audio and video files directly on a wiki page is not currently enabled for this wiki. If you wish to include such media files in your article, please host them on another website or server and include a link to the media file (just as you would include a link to an "external website," described above).

[edit] Notes, References, and Resources

  • See Notes, References, and Resources for instructions on how to create footnotes on a wiki page, as well as the conventions we are using on the wiki for references and lists of resources.
